On June 3rd , 2019 a big crowd consisting of family, friends, representatives of different private and governmental organizations, firemen, churches, the Escuintla governor and mayor, radio and tv stations and many more met in San Miguel Los Lotes in memory of the volcano disaster one year ago.
Most walked from El Rodeo to San Miguel Los Lotes, where a minute of silence, a prayer, speeches and religious services were held. The names of all victims were read aloud.
Photographs of the victims were carried and placed on a type altar, also where the victims used to live.
It was a very emotional day but the strong support was felt. At the end a small meal was handed out to everybody.
The survivors have not been forgotten. This month the people from El Barrio, adjacent to San Miguel Lotes, are moving in to their new houses, donated by the government, in the center of Escuintla. Soon the survivors of San Miguel Los Lotes will follow (their houses are somewhat bigger), as well as at least 50% of the population of La Trinidad. 115 families from Las Palmas were just moved into temporary shelters away from the dangerous river La Ceniza which threatens to flood the village.
